Change of Season – Stay in Balance

Change of season, change of being. The sun is dipping lower on the horizon in this part of the world and with the change of summer flowing into the fall, our bodies naturally flow and prepare with the tune of nature to become more introspective in preparation for the transition from the summer sun and fiery activity to the winter tranquility and coldness. Autumn becomes the time of in between, a parenthesis filled with warm days and cool evenings, sweet scents of abundant harvests and the earthy smells of the decay regenerating the soil. A season filled with activity of a different nature. In Classical Chinese Medicine, the season of autumn is associated with the lungs and large intestine. It is through the lungs that one connects with the concept of Ch’i. What is Ch’i? Ch’i is the breath of heaven. The ancient Chinese believed that heaven initiated life.  Ch’i is energy, an energy underlying life. It is the awareness of this energy that forms the basis of Classical Chinese medicine. It is this basis in partnership with sound vibration and music theory that has evolved Soundtouch therapy. When the flow of Ch’i is disturbed, there can be imbalances in the body leading to dis-ease. This autumn take the time to nurture your Ch’i by bringing awareness to your lungs and large intestine. The lungs receive inspiration, connect with spirit and discover what inspires you. The large intestine allows you to let go the inessential. What is it that you need to let go of in order to act upon your inspirations? Practice breathing. Pay attention to the process of breathing without judging it, just be aware of it. The purpose is to clue into the state of our well-being through the breath. Are we calm? agitated? distracted? focused? Continue this awareness, feeling the rhythmic flow, notice that the heart centre and the mind become steady and more calm. Finding balance in the midst of a transitional season.

Sound Healing – Resonance, Frequency, Rhythm and you

How does sound in sound healing work? This article explores qualities and energetics of sound. SOUND HAS RESONANCE. Resonance is a phenomenon in which a vibrating system or external force drives another system to oscillate (move or swing) Some objects have two or more resonant frequencies. Resonance occurs when an object’s movements (oscillations) are increased by the matching vibrations of another object. Everything in the universe vibrates, which means everything has a resonant frequency whether we can audibly perceive it or not, such as dog whistles, wi-fi, radio towers. When taken in alignment with the concept of sound, every organ, bone and tissue in our body has a resonant frequency. When taken to another level, understand that a conscious being is more than a combination of organs, bone and tissues. A conscious being has thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Therefore the resonant frequency of an individual in combination with the resonance of a physical body and consciousness create a compositional frequency and harmonic resonance that has the ability to attract others, as well as affect others in a positive or negative way. SOUND HAS FREQUENCY. Frequency is the number oscillations (vibrations or waves) per unit of time. It is measured in cycles per second called Hertz. The slower the vibration the lower the frequency. The faster the vibration, the higher the frequency. (we can see this physically manifest on the length of a pendulum chain - the shorter the chain the faster the pendulum response) The speed at which sound travels depends on the media through which the sound is traveling. Sound travels 4x faster in water than in the air, so the body, made mostly of water is an excellent sound resonator. SOUND HAS RHYTHM, this is to say that there is a regular pattern of beats and regular recurring patterns of activity. (such as a heartbeat) These patterns are formed from stress and unstressed actions. This is another reason why sounds can calm and stabilize the body. SOUND HAS ENTRAINMENT. Entrainment is an action that causes something to happen, it draws something in and moves it along in the flow. Solid particles, air bubbles, or liquids dropped into a moving fluid are carried along. With entrainment, the body cells have the ability to communicate. Healthy cells can transform unhealthy cells. SOUND HAS VIBRATION. Vibration is the process of movement, which in effect can communicate feelings and thoughts from one to another as well as creates the atmosphere of a place or a situation. We observe this when we enter certain buildings, a church or temple feels much differently than a busy office. SOUND HAS TONE/TIMBRE. Tone is a measure of the quality of a sound wave. Timbre is the perceived quality of any sounds’ multiple frequencies changing through time. This explains why some sounds stimulate positive or negative memories, as well as the importance of soundtracks in the movies for example.

Soundtouch – Explore the Deeper Meaning of Acupuncture Points

Music making, whether it is singing, chanting, dancing, playing an instrument or attending musical events is a powerful transformative energy capable of healing the soul. Scientific research confirms that our body, brain, organs and cells vibrate in measurable frequencies. Music is a healing art. So how does one make music physical? In the search to answer this question, as well as looking at ways to improve bodily health and well being, the fascinating journey into Chinese Medicine became the medium for the application of sound via the acupuncture point system. Hence Soundtouch therapy was born. Acupuncture points are little vortices of energy that when blocked restrict the flow of energy through our physical being. Blocked energy creates disharmony which can lead to disease. It is appropriate to call acupuncture points, Energy Release Points. A Soundtouch therapy session is very experiential. Initial consultation and medical history determine the treatment plan. Specific sound frequencies are then applied to the body on the appropriate Energy Release Points and vibration begins to flow into the meridian pathway allowing the body to relax into a receptive healing state. In this state, healing begins as the whole body system communicates within itself. Sound has the ability to build bridges within our emotional, mental, spiritual and physical body that brings to our conscious selves the awareness necessary to walk the path to wholeness and health. Writing the book Spiritual Portraits of the Energy Release Points, became a natural extension of this healing modality. The purpose of this book is to bring forward the messages of each acupuncture point (Energy Release Point). In Classical Chinese Medicine, the power of healing is drawn not only from unblocking the energy of the point, but also in understanding the spirit of the point found within the name itself. Reading the message consciously connects one to the root of the issue. Isn’t it wonderful to know that our body holds the key to our own ability to become healthy? Spiritual Portraits of the Energy Release Points is a valuable resource for any bookshelf, not just an acupuncturist or for a patient of acupuncture. It can be used as an oracle, with random opening for the message that you need to start your day, or to deal with a problem that you have been wrestling with in your mind. Reading the message can bring balance and help reclaim your centre for a more joy filled life.
